Is this service right for you?

Is this service right for you?
If you provide essential help and support – without being paid – to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour, then I can help. Those you care for could be frail, ill, disabled or have a mental health problem, learning disability or issues with substance misuse.Carers are extremely important within families and communities and often help those they support to live independently for a much longer time.

Unwaged carers have a tough job – it can mean unrelenting pressure, little chance to relax and a lot of worry. My team are here to help.

What is a carer?
A carer is anyone of any age who cares – without pay – for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction cannot cope without their support.

Anyone can become a carer; carers come from all walks of life, all cultures and can be of any age. Many carers do not consider themselves to be a carer; they are just looking after their mother, son, or best friend, just getting on with it and doing what anyone else would in the same situation.

Carers are extremely important within families and communities and often help those they care for to live independently for longer. Unwaged carers have a tough job – it can mean unrelenting pressure, little chance to relax and a lot of worry.

How I can help

Adult carers

You may be helping a friend, neighbour or relative with day to day tasks. What you’re handling may be linked to their substance misuse, difficulties with a learning disability, physical or mental health. I know it’s a strain, and I’m here to support you.

Young carers

I know it’s hard looking after someone else – especially when you’re young. You do it because you care, and that’s amazing. What you’re dealing with can be overwhelming though and come with lots of pressures. I know this, and I can help.

What people say about my carers service

Having someone to speak to about my caring role who understands makes a huge difference to me.

Carer

I think that it’s really important for people to know about young carers because if there are other children who look after siblings or Mums and Dads, they need to know that there are people there for them to talk to if they are feeling upset.

Young carer

Thank you for your support and for listening without judgement. I was able to speak honestly about my role as a carer and the up and down of emotions that brings.
