Stand Fast, Stand Strong
It stood fast, it stood strong
The gentle drops of the spring rain splattering on its skin
Bringing it life whilst the sunshine brought it joy
The gentle breeze making its newly formed leaves dance and sway
A multitude of colours raising with the new life
It stood fast, it stood strong
The clear skies letting it see heaven
The clear skies letting it enjoy the brazen light and heat from the sun uninterrupted
Slowly making it wither by chasing the clouds away
Drinking thirstily when eventually the heavens sheds its tears with the thunderstorms of summer
It stood fast, it stood strong
As it felt its leaves dry out and die
Watching the life that was abundantly present with summer and spring flutter away
Like butterfly wings flapping away the leaves fall away from its branches
The life that once blossomed turned into browns, purples and yellows of autumn
The slight chill stripping away the very last of its life
It stood fast, it stood strong
Lonely and cold with the winter’s chill
Frozen at times and surrounded by white, fluffy snow
Waking each morning to ice covering its trunk and branches
Feeling the little life that’s left in it hold on a little longer
As it knows it shall bloom again as spring approaches.
As it knows it will stand fast and it will stand strong through the changing seasons.
