At Gaddum, we are appalled by the ongoing violence taking place across our communities, and indeed across the country. Language is important, and Gaddum’s stance is that recent events are not ‘protests’, but Islamophobic and racist thuggery.
Those affected are our families, our beneficiaries and our colleagues. First and foremost, we’d like to express our solidarity and say, to you, that you are in our thoughts.
As an organisation, our immediate priority is to make sure everyone knows how to stay safe, both physically and emotionally.
Below, we have listed resources, contacts, and support from Gaddum and other organisations.
Internally, we are taking steps to protect our colleagues through extra home-working flexibility and travel precautions. We are making dynamic decisions and closing spaces that are in the vicinity of planned events. We are also creating spaces where colleagues can share concerns and lean on each other during this distressing time.
It has been heartwarming to see the overwhelming outpouring of sentiments and peaceful protests in the last 24 hours that we believe are a proper reflection of our country’s compassionate and inclusive values. And, going forward, there is more we can do. As a diverse organisation it’s essential we continue to stand together with our community members and VCSE partners, in consistently and rigorously decrying violence and discrimination in all its forms.
For now, we are hoping for calm and safety in our streets, and we are sending love to everyone impacted. If you need support, we’re here.
