It’s Volunteers’ Week 1 – 7 June and an opportunity for us to celebrate our amazing volunteers at Gaddum.
There’s lots of different volunteer roles available at Gaddum including counselling volunteering, which enabled graduate Chloe Horne to kick start her career in therapy.
Chloe Horne graduated from the University of Salford in 2018 with a BSc Counselling and Psychotherapy: Professional practice. She is now employed with us as a Child Bereavement Therapist.
“I started my counselling placement here in November 2016 and I enjoyed every minute of it. I chose to volunteer at Gaddum because it was exactly the type of placement I was looking for.
I knew I’d be able to work with a wide array of clients and issues. It’s a place I’ve felt like I could grow and it’s also in a great location!
During my time here I’ve felt really supported. Whenever I’ve had a problem, somebody has always been on hand to talk to. I felt this especially when I was going through a difficult personal issue, the staff were incredibly understanding and supportive.
Gaddum has students from different places and it’s been interesting and helpful to meet people who aren’t on my course as you’re able to gain a different perspective on some things.
I feel I’ve grown here as a Counsellor by being able to help an assortment of clients with diverse problems and backgrounds. I’ve also learned skills I didn’t expect, like how to conduct an initial assessment with a client.
There’s also a real sense of safety and security here and Gaddum’s risk process helps offer a feeling of protection. I decided to continue volunteering after I qualified because this is a great organisation. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to kick start their counselling career.”
